Video from Voodoo Fest 2011

The fine folks at the Voodoo Music Experience videotaped our set on October 28 at the WWOZ/Bud Light Stage this year, and what a set it was! We had the “big band” for this one, including our friends Jimmy Carpenter & Derek Huston on saxophones and Chris Pylant on percussion. Currently you can view two songs from the set on Vimeo – an epic version of the now-classic “Chocolate Cake”, and a more recent addition to the HISB stable of original music, the psychedelic-tinged “Change My Ways”….look for this new song on the upcoming new studio CD release from HISB in 2012.

HISB featured on 2011 Jazz Fest Live compilation

MunckMusic has released their 2011 Jazz Fest Live compilation — a mix of some of the best performances from this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival — and it includes a track from the Honey Island Swamp Band set at Fais Do-Do Stage, May 1, 2011. The HISB song “Josephine” can be found on Disc 1 of the new collection, and it is a particularly amazing live version of the song, featuring the dueling guitar fireworks of Chris Mulé and special guest Jake Eckert (Dirty Dozen Brass Band, New Orleans Suspects).

HISB wins BEST ROOTS ROCK ARTIST at 2010 Best of the Beat Awards!

Honey Island Swamp Band won BEST ROOTS ROCK ARTIST at the Best Of The Beat Awards on Friday night! We want to express our gratitude to everyone who voted for us, as well as to OffBeat for all the great support they give to Louisiana music!!

Festival season 2011

As the winter rolls on, and the band plows their way thru the snows of the western US, the festival season for 2011 is heating up. HISB is excited to announce that we will be playing many of your favorite festivals this spring and summer! As of right now, the band is scheduled for the following musical gatherings:

June 2-3: Wakarusa, Ozark, AR (Late night Thursday, plus Friday afternoon)

Big shout out to the hard working folks who put on the first annual Hangout Music Fest in beautiful Gulf Shores, AL. Never been to a better-run, more beautiful fest than this one – and on top of it all, all proceeds go to help save our threatened Gulf Coast from this nasty oil spill. If you don’t love crystal blue water, sugar-white beaches, hot girls in bikinis and three days of world-class talent on four incredible stages – this one’s not for you! Can’t wait for next year!

Well another Jazz Fest has come and gone and the slow recovery continues! We had an incredible two weeks and want to sincerely thank all the fans who came to see us, all the clubs that invited us to play, all the musicians who joined us, and most of all, the great people at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival who invited us to be a part of the greatest music event in the world again this year. Can’t wait for 2011!

Honey Island Swamp Band kicks off JazzFest with a celebration of the new album Good To You at the official Good To You CD Release Party at the HiHo Lounge. Joining the band for a very special performance will be the ladies of Slow Burn Burlesque, who not only will be opening the show with a set of their own sexy sultry dancing, but will also be joining the band on a variety of numbers throughout the HISB set. This is looking to be a really unique and exceptional evening of pure NOLA entertainment, featuring two of the hottest acts in the Crescent City nightlife scene. Be sure to get there in time to take in all of the amazing fun – doors at 9pm, show starts at 10:00pm with the SBB performance, followed by a full HISB show that will go well into the wee hours. And don’t forget to pick up your very own copy of Good To You hot off the presses!
