Sam Price
Born: Slidell, LA
Instruments: Lakeland Electric 5-String Bass, Sal Giardina Upright Bass
Raised just outside the Honey Island Swamp in Slidell Louisiana, Sam Price grew up playing rock and roll, but was later influenced by the variety of musical styles he heard coming over the airwaves from WWOZ radio, across Lake Ponchartrain in New Orleans. After moving to the city at the age of 21, Sam began to feel the funk, got hip to jazz and started feeling the blues. After a brief stint at the University of New Orleans Jazz Studies Program, his continuing musical travels led him through the realms of bluegrass with John Boutte and Uptown Okra, afro-beat with the New World Funk Ensemble, and Latin music with Freddy Omar, before eventually founding his own Afro-Cuban jazz group Otra.
