Cloud Hangin' Over Me

Cloud Hangin' Over Me

Thousands of Katrina refugees finally make it out of the Superdome and are bussed to the Astrodome in Houston. Days later, they take a direct hit from Hurricane Rita. I said to somebody “those folks must feel like they got a cloud hangin’ over them.” This song is about missing home and a way of life you only find in New Orleans. Lined Up Losers

Lined Up Losers

I wrote this song behind the wheel on a mid-winter tour from northern California through Colorado and on south.  We drove two days straight to the first gig in Park City, took a blizzard with no snow tires, a flat in the desert and no heat the whole way.  A lucky hit on a video poker machine bought us food and gas to get us started – had to be a song in there somewhere. We were three days out of Denver when the wheels fell off / Park City, barking at the morning moon / Down and out on a ten day drought when the wild man popped one off / And we been bellied up at the bar since noon / Now Katy’s cryin’ on the phone because she needs my help / But I’m too tired to talk and too stoned to move / So pass me the bag and I’ll reinvent myself / On the mirror backstage in the dressing room / You won’t see me no you’ll never see me / I’m already gone / I been rollin’ down this road so long / Well you can only crash in so many places / Before you start to feel like flyin’ home / In a crowd surrounded by so many friendly faces / But you never felt so all alone / Now Katy two times on the corner tryin’ to get picked up / She lookin’ more than just alright for the shape she’s in / The kids have been out all night long just tryin’ to get fucked up / Somebody let those lined up losers in
