Cloud Hangin' Over Me

Cloud Hangin' Over Me

Thousands of Katrina refugees finally make it out of the Superdome and are bussed to the Astrodome in Houston. Days later, they take a direct hit from Hurricane Rita. I said to somebody “those folks must feel like they got a cloud hangin’ over them.” This song is about missing home and a way of life you only find in New Orleans. Lined Up Losers

Lined Up Losers

I wrote this song behind the wheel on a mid-winter tour from northern California through Colorado and on south.  We drove two days straight to the first gig in Park City, took a blizzard with no snow tires, a flat in the desert and no heat the whole way.  A lucky hit on a video poker machine bought us food and gas to get us started – had to be a song in there somewhere. There’s a cloud been hangin’ over me / Skies are grey as far as I can see / Days on end I’ve seen not hide nor hair / Of the friends I left behind down there / Feel like a fish out of water / Time keeps on keeping on / But I don’t care to bother keeping time/ When it drags on endlessly / And this cloud keeps hangin’ over me / Maybe I want something that I don’t need / But where’s a man to take himself / When it’s two a.m. and you take him off his feet / Well it’s hard in times like these / Not to believe superstition / To curse this whole condition / And this cloud that’s hangin’ over me
