Thousands of Katrina refugees finally make it out of the Superdome and are bussed to the Astrodome in Houston. Days later, they take a direct hit from Hurricane Rita. I said to somebody “those folks must feel like they got a cloud hangin’ over them.” This song is about missing home and a way of life you only find in New Orleans. Lined Up Losers

I wrote this song behind the wheel on a mid-winter tour from northern California through Colorado and on south.  We drove two days straight to the first gig in Park City, took a blizzard with no snow tires, a flat in the desert and no heat the whole way.  A lucky hit on a video poker machine bought us food and gas to get us started – had to be a song in there somewhere. Raised just outside the Honey Island Swamp in Slidell Louisiana, Sam Price grew up playing rock and roll, but was later influenced by the variety of musical styles he heard coming over the airwaves from WWOZ radio, across Lake Ponchartrain in New Orleans.  After moving to the city at the age of 21, Sam began to feel the funk, got hip to jazz and started feeling the blues.  After a brief stint at the University of New Orleans Jazz Studies Program, his continuing musical travels led him through the realms of bluegrass with John Boutte and Uptown Okra, afro-beat with the New World Funk Ensemble, and Latin music with Freddy Omar, before eventually founding his own Afro-Cuban jazz group Otra.
